A firm of wind farm developers are planning to press ahead with proposals for a site west of Berwick after overcoming financial problems.

A spokesman for Your Energy revealed that six months after funding ran out and a number of founder shareholders resigned, the company has now been restructured and new financial arrangements put in place. Now they plan to concentrate on the proposed £30m scheme for 14 turbines each over 100 metres high on a 300-acre site near Shores Dene which has brought a storm of protest from local people.

Alcan's award

THE Alcan power station at Lynemouth in Northumberland has gained international recognition for its outstanding health and safety record.

It has won the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' Occupational Health and Safety President's Award following nine consecutive gold medals .

Big launch

A BOAT race along the Northumberland coast, finishing at the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club in Blyth on Saturday afternoon, will launch a series of summer events celebrating the county's coastline.

The River and Sea Festival is organised by the Northumberland Strategic Partnership and funded by the NSP and the NewcastleGateshead Initiative as part of the Culture10 programme. Saturday's race starts at Tynemouth and circles the Farne Islands before finishing in Blyth Harbour at about 3.30pm.

Hedging bets

WANSBECK councillors will next week be recommended to make a charge of £400 for investigating and determining neighbour complaints about high hedges.
