The dangers of smoking and how to kick the habit were the topics of discussion for school pupils.
Darlington Primary Care Trust held sessions at comprehensive schools and colleges in the town informing pupils of the damaging effects of the killer weed and offering help if they want to quit.
School nurses drove the message home at Darlington's secondary schools, Darlington College of Technology and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.
Young people gave their ideas on what the best ways are to stop them taking up the habit.
The initiative was the latest in a programme of stop smoking events designed to tackle the single biggest cause of avoidable ill-health.
Darlington PCT, Darlington Council and Darlington Partnership is currently involved in the largest ever survey on smoking which will influence future policies in the town.
Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for children's services, said: "The best advice I can give to young people is never start smoking but, if you do smoke and you want to stop, help is available.
"Professional advice is always available in schools and I urge pupils who smoke to talk to them and tell them what help they need to stop."
