By working out or visiting a health club you will see a multitude of different stereotypes and characters. Here we take a light-hearted look at each of these. It goes without saying that any similarity to a specific individual is coincidental!
THE AEROBICS QUEEN:
She is always the first name down to take part in a charity master class. She embraces all new exercise fads and is impeccably dressed. She will know everyone in the club and can be found at the front of all classes joining in with the instructor's poor jokes.
MR MUSCLES:
He will be found in the free weight area, wears a vest and tracksuit bottoms and never has a shower as he never does enough cardio work to sweat! He believes it will reduce his muscle size! Loves to grunt so everyone knows what he is doing!
They love to train hard on the cardio kit. They compete in every half-marathon and are popular with lots of friends. Again, good lookers with the best, latest trainers and heart rate monitors. If equipment is being upgraded they are often ask: "Can we buy your old treadmill?"
MR CORPORATE:
He arrives immaculately dressed, always running late for a meeting and desperate to squeeze in a workout with his personal trainer. He has the ability to find fault with anything but the best.
THE EARLY RISER:
Often found outside the club before the gym has opened desperate to be first. Popular with the morning crowd. The only time you see them after noon is at the members' party!
LITTLE MISS CHALLENGE:
Always pretty, big personality, popular with the male instructors, this princess likes a challenging workout and can be encouraged to take part in any gym challenge. Usually found dating one of the personal trainers!
MR FITNESS FIRST:
He knows all about the company and feels a corporate belonging by visiting all the clubs in the group. Takes a keen interest in keeping the club clean by reporting untidy members. Is on first name terms with the manager.
Health clubs attract the widest spectrum of users. When shopping for membership visit the club at the time of day you plan to use it and ask yourself: `Will I feel comfortable here?'
