It does not claim to be definitive and numerous fantastic reasons have been left out. But the reasons that made the final list are a mixture of everything our area - Tees Valley, Teesside - however you define it - has to offer. Teesside has a fantastic heritage and one we should all be proud of. From the exploits of Captain Cook to the construction of Sydney Harbour Bridge, Teesside has played a crucial role in how the whole world has developed. While we acknowledge those achievements, this list is not just about looking at what we have done in the past. The list combines the light-hearted and the serious, business and cultural, contemporary and historic, natural and man-made reasons which make you feel proud to live, work and study in the "most beautiful place on earth". As this list reveals, these aren't just our words, but are billionaire businessman's Jon Huntsman, whose company took over large parts of the Teesside chemical industry. We think the Tees Valley is one of the most fascinating and exciting places to live and work in the country. It can be seen from the award-winning designer department store Psyche to top arts venues and festivals. Teesside has outstanding natural features from the beauty of the Cleveland Hills to its unique industrial landscape and its rugged coastline. And it boasts excellent transport links through the expansion of Durham Tees Valley Airport, Teesport and Hartlepool ports and the East Coast Mainline connections. Looking forward, the future also appears bright for the Tees Valley. After many years of false dawns work has begun on an ambitious mixed development at Middlehaven. As well as Middlehaven, urban regeneration company Tees Valley Regeneration is also progressing with major projects in Hartlepool, Darlington, Stockton and Durham Tees Valley Airport. Sport has always played a central role in Teesside life and this continues today from the largest junior football league in the country to the on-going success of Middlesbrough FC. The list also shows the achievements which all areas of the Tees Valley bring to the region as Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool, Darlington and Redcar and East Cleveland all offer something special.
