Half of all adults have no regular method of managing their own finances, according to new research.
The findings by the Nat West bank shows that more and more people are adopting a head-in-the-sand approach to personal finances, with one in seven admitting that they avoid opening their bills, 50% saying they have no regular method of budgeting, one in five reporting they have nothing set by for "a rainy day", and 30% of those surveyed admitted spending spend more time choosing a new car than a mortgage.
The findings back up recent research by Citizens Advice which shows that the average debt of its debt clients has increased to £13,000. This sum will take an average of 77 years to pay off at an affordable rate.
