Second seed Andy Roddick and outsider Thomas Johansson will resume their semi-final today after rain interrupted their clash at Wimbledon yesterday. It will mean the winner will be forced to play two matches in 24 hours - with defending champion Roger Federer rested up after winning his last-four tie against Lleyton Hewitt yesterday. Just 32 minutes of play were possible before the weather deteriorated and forced the players off Centre Court at 4.05pm. Roddick was leading 6-5 in the first set, which was going with serve when the stoppage came. The big-serving Roddick, bidding to set up a re-repeat of last year's final with reigning champion Federer, began in trademark fashion, starting and finishing his opening service game with aces, one of them a 135mph delivery. Johansson then produced four aces in his first service game but at a far slower pace and he was also forced to save a break point. Johansson, aiming to become first Swedish finalist since Stefan Edberg 15 years ago, was just beginning to settle down when the predicted rain arrived. * ANDY Murray will have Mark Petchey as his full-time coach when he plays his first event since Wimbledon next week. Petchey yesterday confirmed he will quit as manager of men's national training for the Lawn Tennis Association to coach the 18-year-old Scot. The pair began working together at the start of the grass court season when Murray won his first ever matches on the ATP Tour. He reached the third round of Wimbledon before losing to former finalist David Nalbandian in five sets on Centre Court. "I'm so pleased to have Mark as my coach, I respect him a great deal," Murray said. "He has helped me massively over the last few weeks and I am excited to work with him moving forward. "The LTA have been very supportive of the plan we have put together and I appreciate their confidence and support." Petchey, whose television commitments have been adapted to allow him to travel with Murray, said: "These past four weeks have obviously shown the tennis world what most insiders have known for some time. "Andy has the ability and talent to make a real impact in the professional game, I look forward to doing my part in helping Andy to reach his full potential." |
