Frankie Dettori edged closer to the jockeys' championship after recording a Goodwood treble yesterday.
Dettori stepped up his bid to end Kieren Fallon's hopes of a seventh jockeys' title with two of his winners being trained by Epsom trainer Jim Boyle.
The Italian struck when filly Desert Cristal (7-1) gave him an easy two-length success in the one-mile EBF Kent Reliance Building Society Classified Stakes and completed a brace when gelding Idle Power (4-1) landed the seven-furlong Anglo Irish bank Handicap.
"To have two winners today is a little unexpected but obviously I'm delighted, especially since this is my favourite track," Boyle said. Dettori completed the treble when Godolphin "sleeper" Double Deputy (7-4) scored impressively by four lengths in the 10-furlong Sutton Business Centre Maiden Stakes.
"He's taken his time to come to hand and he is by Sadler's Wells, so he must have liked the bit of cut in the ground," said Godolphin representative Diana Cooper.
"He's a bit of a sleeper - he came alive on his debut," she added.
Eddie Ahern, Idle Power's usual partner, gained consolation when landing the two-mile Lloyds TSB Dress Rehearsal Stakes, as the Peter Harris-trained Masterman Ready (7-1) got the better of a protracted duel with Isa'af.
Something Exciting (14-1) looks to have a decent future judged on her impressive performance in the 3663 Nursery Handicap Stakes.
Under Richard Quinn, the David Elsworth-trained Halling filly powered away inside the final furlong of the mile event to beat long-time leader Secret Pact by a length and a half.
