Rowing: Trophy successes for oarsmen

Tees Rowing Club sent 12 crews to row the South Yorkshire Head of the River Don last Saturday.

Cold and wet conditions did not deter the rowers from Tees who produced spirited performances to carry off two of the trophies at this popular event.

The South Yorkshire Head of the River is organised by Doncaster Rowing Club and City of Sheffield Rowing Clubs.

The event headquarters was located at the Earth Centre in Conisborough at the end of the 3000m upstream course.

Tees Rowing Club's Veteran D Eight (over 50 age group) won their event; and similarly the Tees Club Senior 3 4+ crew put in a much-improved performance to take the winners medals for their event.

The crew members of the winning Veteran D Eight were;

Bow - Tor Tavener, Paul Reevel, John Green, Dick Wilkinson, Chris Kenyon, Bob Bainbridge, Richard Harandon, Stroke Tony Stocking: Cox John Heron.

The crew members of the winning Senior 3 iv+ were; Bow Steve Vaslet, Dave Warburton, Dave Scarr, Stroke Andy Pickering cox, Angie Warburton.

Tees crews are now preparing for their big event, the Head of the Trent in Nottingham on Sunday.

Then, there's the Women's Head of the River on the Thames in London on March 6 and the Head of the Tyne at Newburn in Newcastle on the same day, while the Vesta International Head of the River is being staged on the Thames on March 21.
