Fowler and Cole swop deal is on

Jun 21 2004

By Evening Gazette

Manchester City and top flight rivals Blackburn could be set for a striker swop to reunite two big names with former managers. City boss Kevin Keegan wants his one time Newcastle goal machine Andy Cole back while Graeme Souness thinks he can get former Liverpool hitman Robbie Fowler back to his old Anfield best.

Charlton are poised to beat off a host of Premiership clubs to sign PSV's highly rated Serbian striker Mateja Kezman in a £4m deal. Alan Curbishley is also close to pip Aston Villa and seal a £2m move for Millwall's Australian midfield dynamo Tim Cahill.

Liverpool's new boss Rafael Benitez is set to raid old club Valencia to snap up £8m rated Spanish winger Vicente. Benitez insists he will fight off a reported £30m Chelsea swoop for Anfield icon Steve Gerrard - but if he fails he will demand Scott Parker as part of the package.

Spurs are back in the hunt for Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids after Barcelona withdrew a one year offer and released him. Spurs are ready to offer a two year £6m package to attract the free agent to White Hart Lane.

Newcastle are close to a deal to sign Marseille's highly-rated Egyptian hitman Mido but French winger Laurent Robert has ruled out going the other way on loan as part of the deal.

Birmingham have dropped their interest in Leeds' former Boro loanee Danny Mills and will now try to lure Chelsea's Dutch defender Mario Melchiot. Melchiot may be forced out at Stamford Bridge if new boss Jose Mourinho goes back to Porto for Ricardo Carvahlo.

Sevilla are set to hi-jack Birmingham's move for Chelsea and Denmark midfielder Jesper Gronkjaer. Steve Bruce has agreed a deal with the club but not yet spoken to the player.
