Verdict on ex-engineer

A retired mechanical engineer died of an asbestos-linked cancer, a Teesside inquest heard.

James Francis Dorgan, 76, of Ashton Road, Norton, was admitted to University Hospital of North Tees on May 5 but died there on May 25.

Pathologist Dr Jan Lowe said an examination showed Mr Dorgan had seven times more asbestos fibres in his lungs than expected.

He described it as a "a very high content consistent with industrial use without protection".

Teesside Coroner Michael Sheffield recorded a verdict of death industrial disease mesothelioma.
