A seaside hotel turns into something very different for the weekend, the Gazette can reveal today. During the week, Redcar's Seacroft Hotel is a conventional bed and breakfast, its 13 centrally-heatedrooms offering colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities and wash basins. But on certain weekends, it becomes the Sexcroft - advertising itself as "the North-east's first 'Swingers Hotel'". Its conventional website says the hotel is "centrally situated close to the seafront and main shopping centre. It is only a few minutes walk to a leisure centre and a golf club." But by following a link offered by a well-known search engine, Seacroft becomes Sexcroft - and certain extra facilities are on offer. The hotel has an "ambient play-room" which has "seen some pretty exciting times and is ready for more." There's mention of "party games" in the bar, including Naked Twister. "The whole hotel experience is on FUN," the website says. It even invited people staying on Redcar race weekends to "loose (sic) your shirt in more ways than one." Visitors are urged: "So come on, instead of talking about swinging ....... let's do swinging!............... VISIT THE SEXCROFT HOTEL and have some FUN." A Gazette reader stumbled upon the Seacroft's other identity while searching for hotels in Redcar. Police know of the operation, but say no laws are being broken. The reader, who asked not to be named, said: "I couldn't believe it when I compared the websites. It was obviously the same hotel, but I was pretty shocked when I saw the Sexcroft one." The hotel is only available as a swingers venue on Friday and Saturday nights - and then only on certain weekends. The website says: "Although 'swingers' are welcome to stay at other times, you should be aware 'normal' guests are resident on other days, appropriate behaviour is necessary and other tariffs apply." The guest book includes entries from "Lez" from Redcar who says: "Time we had some adult fun in this area." An enthusiastic Sue and Mike say: "We came last weekend, what a brill night, can't wait to come back." The Sexcroft is the brainchild of a couple who adopt the names "Judy" and "Steve" when they switch over from normal duties running the hotel they took over last December. Ireland-born Judy, a former Midlands store detective, said: "Swinging is basically couples who want to have fun with other couples. "It's consenting adults, no one pays for anything except their room, drinks and breakfast and there are certainly no drugs or anything like that. It's just an adult party." Steve and Judy have been married for 23 years but began "swinging" four years ago. Mum-of-three Judy said: "We went to a hotel in Blackpool that catered for swingers last year and thought 'we could do that' but it has taken a long time to get off the ground. "We just wanted to get out of the rat race and do something for ourselves." She said the hotel and swinging operations were kept strictly separate. Around four 'party weekends' have been held so far, with the next one planned for next month. Acting Chief Superintendent Tom Stoddart, head of Langbaurgh CID, said: "As soon as we were made aware of the website, we visited the premises. "The proprietors have been advised what the legal boundaries are and the situation will be monitored by us. "However, it is not a matter directly for the police because it is between consenting adults, payment is not involved and the hotel is not open to the general public on those specific weekends." |
