Teenager handed ASBO

Oct 12 2004

By Evening Gazette

A judge has issued an anti-social behaviour order against a Middlesbrough teenager.

District Judge Roger Elsey told the 15-year-old boy that the interim order was necessary to "protect the public".

He told the teenager - who cannot be named for legal reasons - the order would run until November 3.

This was the first ASBO requested by Coast and Country Housing and came after a barrage of calls about the boy.

Solicitor Jeanette Thompson applied for the order at Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday. Speaking after the hearing Louise Harding, Tenancy Compliance Manager at Coast and Country, said: "We have received a number of complaints from residents about this individual."

The teenager, represented by Simon Walker, was given a list of conditions he must abide by, including not congregating in groups of three or more people where it could cause harassment.

He is banned from entering roads or surrounding land bordered by, but not including, Bolckow Road, Westcroft Road, Birchington Avenue, The Broadway and Church Lane as well as from an area of Middlesbrough bordered by, but not including Monmouth Road, Somerset Road, Chedder Close and Leicester House and must not go within 15m of Kwik Save, Birchington Avenue, Grangetown.

An application for a full ASBO is expected to be heard on November 2.
